Red Bull driver
Sergio Perez is second in the world championship but feels the hot breath of seven-time world champion
Lewis Hamilton. Perez is often criticised for not being close enough to Verstappen. Red Bull advisor
Helmut Marko talks about Perez's situation at Red Bull, saying he has no alternative.
Perez's contract at Red Bull still runs until the end of 2024, so it looks like the Mexican will just drive for the Austrian racing stable next season, too. Recently, AlphaTauri's line-up for next season was announced. From there, it emerged that
Liam Lawson does not have a seat in the '24
F1 season.
Marko on Perez's situation
"Maybe I am repeating myself, but Perez has a contract that we want to respect. We are doing everything we can to get him back on track," the Graz-based Austrian told SPORT1.de. But the Red Bull man also knows that big other options are missing. "We are missing the alternatives. Otherwise, he might have a problem," the 80-year-old man concludes.
Perhaps there will be an eleventh team in
Formula 1. Indeed, Andretti Global's application to the
FIA has been approved, meaning the American constructor may come for an interview with the FOM. Andretti would like to have a presence on the
Formula 1 grid as soon as possible. Read an opinion piece on our site here on why Perez would be a suitable candidate for Andretti-Cadillac.
