Kimi Raikkonen insists traffic was the reason why he didn't get his
Ferrari car on pole for tomorrow's Grand Prix. The Finn will start the race from third behind both Mercedes drivers.
In wet conditions, the advantage the Ferrari drivers become limited. In the final session, Raikkonen and Vettel failed to produce the key lap. Raikkonen explains to how traffic prevented him from being the fastest.
"I was a bit unlucky, I changed to new tyres and [there was] not a lot of grip, but we got behind the Haas and with the spray, it was impossible to see and improve," said Raikkonen following the conclusion of the session.
"There was definitely the chance in these conditions today to be comfortably on pole, but it didn't happen."
Speaking to Motorsport after Kimi mentioned how impressed he was with the Ferrari car in the wet. Fast wet running has been limited this year with little rain fall in the big sessions. Raikkonen was pleased to find this out.
"What is the most important, and nice, thing is the car was driveable and enjoyable in the wet."
The Ferrari team must now think of a plan to beat the Mercedes tomorrow. Dry conditions are expected for the race tomorrow enhancing the performance of the red car. However, the track is notably difficult to overtake on. The run down to the first corner is going to be fascinating.
