Verstappen was allowed to start the race from pole position and was immediately off to a good start, but found it increasingly difficult with
Carlos Sainz behind him. The Spaniard, who was fighting for his first career victory, came up short and had to settle for second place.
Behind them,
Charles Leclerc struggled forward from the back position. Where it was not made easy for him, he finally managed to cross the line as fifth driver. With that, he kept the damage to himself limited.
Mercedes impresses in Canada
Besides
Ferrari and
Red Bull Racing, Mercedes also stood out positively. The Brackley-based racing team saw
Lewis Hamilton finish in third position, while George Rusell finished one place behind his teammate. It resulted in satisfied faces afterwards, although Mercedes still saw plenty of room for improvement.
