Compared to the race in Britain, there was still a small advantage for Max Verstappen in the race at the Hungaroring. Again, he was hit by a Mercedes on the first lap, but at least he was able to continue his race, albeit with half a car. Valtteri Bottas at least turned the entire race on its head, resulting in a surprise, but no less enjoyable podium.
In his column on F1.com Ross Brawn shines his light on the race in Hungary. "At the start there was the frustration that a tasty fight was taken away from us by the melee at the first corner. The drivers were driving on intermediates for the first time this weekend at a track known for its slipperiness. It robbed us of something we were all looking forward to: Mercedes versus Red Bull. For Red Bull it will have been pretty painful to have one and a half cars out of the race."
The red flag restart also caused a stir, even with Brawn, who has been around F1 for a few years. "Then we had the very unusual situation of Lewis being the only one to take the restart after the red flag. I've never seen anything like it. But it made for a fascinating race, with wonderful action throughout the field. Lewis always proves to be a threat, even when he's starting from the back. Overtaking is very difficult at this track and the current cars are hard to follow - but those are issues we are addressing, starting with the new rules next year."
For Brawn, then, Hamilton is an option as Driver of the Day. "It is so easy with Lewis to just gloss over what he has achieved. He came from last place to the podium on a circuit where you can't overtake. He was very impressive today. He was able to dodge problems at the first corner and didn't let the issue of the restart upset him, when he was the only one on the grid. He was remarkably quiet about it on the radio. I thought we might have heard more from him!"
I always like Ross's views on the race. Very pure and and sincere
Racing incident. Lewis clipped Max's rear wheel after max turned in on Lewis
I thought Max was hit by Norris!! I wonder however whether the race on re-start was still declared by stewards as a wet race?
Red bull fans don't understand that F1 is there to entertain us not to personalize issues, watch the race and enjoy not hate, Lewis is the current champion and there is no dispute to that which means that he is a great driver, maybe Max could be a champion after Lewis BUT he is very reckles and he is a one mode drive. he was also criticising LH and saying he had a fast car. but God is not stupid and he gave RB a super fast car but now Lewis is leading the championship and he is back with a bang. RB must first look for a driver that can win them races, in Hungery Lewis could have passed alonso long time ago but he did not want to crash his car, he made sure that he avoids a crash BUT your Baby Max goes to a corner at 390 km/h and relies on the other driver to pull out and when there is a crash he runs to the FIA and blame other people. to be honest when you compare Horner and Toto you see a big difference, Mercedes is powered by AMG and what is Honda? Lewis is a Champion material and Max is a spoilt brat. It is Hammer time let us race and not hate otherwise Lewis will make you all hearts stop.
Thanks for an excellent observation Kick Boboza. They moaned that Hamilton always have the best cars as if Michael Schumacher won his races with bicycles or Vettel with scooters or Alonso with skate boards. The best drivers always end up with the best cars. The insidious and dishonesty behind all these attacks started with Marko, Christian Horner and the Red BULL team. Max used his car to barge into Lewis in Imola, Barcelona and Portimao - all we heard was how hard and fantastic MV was. Lewis who normally is a feisty driver decided enough was enough, the whole morons came out swinging. You'd have thought that Lewis killed someone. Even in Hungary, Lando crashed into MV, even if the incident was caused by Bottas, everyone was blaming Mercedes in other to link it to Hamilton. Despicable morons - all of them.
LEWIS WAS A BITCH ON HIS TEAM RADIO...COMPLAINING ABOUT ALONSO TIRES AND EVERYTHING ELSE...
It takes one dog to know another. The hate directed at Lewis this season is unprecedented. Have you guys anything else to live on? .
This season Lewis has been reminding most that he is not a champ for nothing... his drives from the back are so impressive... putting to shame those that think he only cruises in front... he ends on the podium n gives it all ..
that track is seriously a difficult one to overtake on even if you have a pace/tyre advantage. at least it was entertaining to see lewis come from the back otherwise it would of been very boring race watching max behind mick/danny for the entire race lol
There was a lot of overtaking. One of the best races for a long time. Max did pass Mick and Ric with half a car. Gasly had some nice actions and so on. It was not only for Hamilton to make it a fun race. Bottas and Stroll did their part too. But Alonso made the show. He almost made Hamilton crying. And your right, Ham was very amusing for 10 laps. But best was the new racer winner Ocon. Far from boring this race, even without Hamilton.
Hams would have finished 60 seconds ahead of the field if he simply changed his tyres like everyone else.
You can't be by definition driver of the day if you make an error that it costs you a certain victory.
People are just in awe of this guy for doing less than he's supposed to do in such a strong car.
I think you're jealous...
Max was in the dominant car by the way and look how that turned out
Taken out on the first lap by a Merc through no fault of his own once again. In qualifying had Q3 disrupted by Hams and Merc's gamesmanship as well.
Economical with the truth mate...
The fact: RBR desperately wanted a tow from Lewis and in that haste they miscalculated. Lewis wasn't going to stumble over Bottas hence the need to pace himself properly. RBR just fell victim to his adjustments for his run. Nothing more...
What error did HAM make, was he supposed to change his tires himself or what? Do you even understand what F1 is all about?
Somehow i doubt that, i figure that if LH44 came in with the rest, merc being the first pitbox, he would have been stuck in the middle. By starting up front alone, he was clear at the back, overtaking slower cars and then come in first for new tires, marching up the order when the rest came in
If he went into the pit he would have been held up by those behind him passing to get to their pit, the estimate was he would come out 8-10th at best. At least try to understand what's going on!
Yep. With 7 titles to boot. I wonder who is going to be the next person to match that
So says someone who was sort of born in F1, Brawn knows what he is talking about unlike some clowns
He is being baised af. Kissing lewis his ass since the beginning of days. To me, he is what marko is to lewis fans. ?
Only a british mercedes formule 1 driver can start from pole, without real competition, finish 3rd end up being DOTD for an F1 affeliate.
Hamilton should be ashamed for coming in 3rd in a mercedes.
The rest of us watched Formula 1...
Im still trying to find this 'formule' you speak so I can figure if it's really Lewis Hamilton
You speak? Or did you mean 'you speak of'
Sounds like a spelling error can happens to the best of us.
You talking shit, you loser should have tried getting in the car yourself, you are a moron for issuing such moronic statements, go get a life loser, if you are not talking about Hamilton, I won't even notice someone like you.
Your a complete idiot.
He drove past 11 F1 racers to get back to 3rd....have you ever raced anything to realise its not so easy
RealismF1....what a strange nickname for someone who doesn't seem to know the values of sport and shows deep ignorance about F1. Hate against a driver is not analysis and you should feel ashamed for such utterly stupid comments.
Go back to school. Poor spelling and lack of understanding the contents of the article. Now it is about British bias... Aha
