Mercedes will have left Imola with mixed feelings. On the one hand, there was the handsome fourth place of George Russell, who thus showed that the W13 does have potential. On the other hand, however, there was the disappointing result of Lewis Hamilton, who came no further than thirteenth place. Team boss Toto Wolff insists that his star driver did not get the material he deserved.
Wolff looks back on a weekend he describes as mostly difficult. "George did a great job to finish P4 from an unpromising starting position but with Lewis, we didn't give him the tools or track position to show his true pace," the team boss said in a Mercedes press release.
However, the German racing stable did learn a lot from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix and that learning process continues in the wind tunnel and simulations. "We have found several directions for improving the car," continued the Austrian. In Miami, Mercedes will therefore start experimenting to correlate those simulations.
He further reveals that both drivers have been in the simulator in the run-up to the Miami Grand Prix and that updates for the upcoming races are being busily worked on at the factory. "This team has shown its resilience over many years and the difficult start to this season has lit a fire within every team member, determined to put it right," Wolff said.
Every week so far we hear the same thing from MB we are experimenting. So you got a slower car an still experimenting while other teams especially RB are coming with upgrades an have a rocketship. Kind of pathetic for 8times constructors winner who don't make mistakes.
Anyone who watched the race would not make all these idiotic comments. Lewis was stuck in a drs train not due to his own fault but due to Ocons dangerous release and in quali red flags whilst others could post better times due to weather decline and earlier input laps. It just wasn't Lewis day. I can't find fault with him. Those who disagree go watch the race again objectively
We didn't give Lewis the tools or track position to show his true pace.....Hahahahahaha Toto is a joker now!! Lol..
Sounds like the excuse for a disappointing result for Mercedes has been prepared already: 'We regret the results, but we have learned a lot.'
Lets be fair. Russel was P4 because both Ferraris missed to show the real result. And Hamilton was stuck in a DRS train. So the difference is less than 10 places.
However, Russell seems faster than Hamilton. Both have the same material. So its lame to blame it on the car.
I tend to disagree slightly. During the first race Lewis was the faster driver, making up quite a bit of distance on Perez, during the 2nd race Lewis caught up to P6 whil russel was pretty much in the same place, in australia Lewis was catching Perez but then Perez pitted, then after perez passed lewis, lewis got a good exit out of the corner and was already next to Perez when the SC was called out, thus allowing George a free pit stop and hence why he overtooklewis in the pit, during the last race in Imola I have to give it to Russel. He was impressive but if it wasnt for Russel's luck he would not be ahead of Lewis on the points table. Just an honest opinion
Do you believe in what you say?......It must be hard work working out excuses for Lewis.....This year no wins for Lewis and that is the truth...
That is ok. You can expect to win every single year for more than 15 years. You onow this is the truth, that is why you did counter my opinion. If you have any valid comment to give then by all means please do it. But to just say something random. Plus remember your words. Last year they came to bite you pretty hard. You were very quiet when lewis made a comebqck durimg the last 4 races and then quickly jumped on your horse when uncle Massi made some sketchy decisions. They will come bwck to bite you again mate.
The spelling is much better now....Why?
You have no idea about anything(Piece of wood on water).........
Im still waiting for the day that contribute a valid comment to this blog. No thx im not veg but what we do know for sure is that you, divergent 2, LH superstar 44 might be the same person?yes your predictions and comments are a joke? #still you cry
Why are you making so many spelling mistakes Tristen-Veg? ...........Are you deliberately making spelling mistakes so that we don't think you are VeganWarrior......What a joke!! hahahahaha..
The funny thing is, Merc cannot even sacrifice Russell's race (like they did to bottas internally) to make mediocre look better than he is, because that would mean both cars will finish outside top 10 and sponsors definately won't be happy with that.
Russell should make the most out of this situation.
A team doesn't sabotage his own car you fool, do you even understand how a F1 team is?
Leave him, he is a troll, he only understands how to break Lewis down, he has been trying since 2007 and still hasnt succeeded so let him keep trying?apparently he has sleepless nights because lewis lives in his head
You are right , mate
Valtteri was always victim to promote Mr Larbalestier , as magic driver.
Now, all Lewis great driving skills are vanished , that help us to understand how bad and mediocre driver he is without superior car.
As well he will be considered as the luckiest driver in F1 history far away from greatist ever.
7 directions, I hope that just one works, cause I can't deal with the bouncing, its painfull watching.
And the on-boards are terrible.
"And the on-boards are terrible."
I disagree, the onboards show the flexy front wing very well.
You need to subscribe to F1 TV, and try watching the driver on boards for the entire race its madness. Even the engine note bounces .
LOL F1 TV yeah right - don’t get me started…….. who can actually subscribe to that again????????
????fishy….
Russell got tools and Lewis not.
It was all manipulated.
Not at all, its called split testing, both cars running different setups and wings to gather x2 data.
Hence Toto giving his analysis.
Not at all, its called excuses for Lewis plan and simple .........No wins for Lewis this year...
@Kzik How is it an excuse? you seem to know more about what's going on in the MercedesF1 camp than we do
Hence your suggestion that Sir Lewis is driving an inferior car.
Sounds convincing.
Your name is a cracker - I was at Imola and there was a guy walking around with a banner with the photo of Toto smashing his headphones captioned with your name - was gold……
