Ferrari have not had a good start to the 2025 season. The best position they managed at the Australian Grand Prix was eight by Charles Leclerc, with Lewis Hamilton in tenth. When asked about Ferrari’s call to stay out inside of pitting for different tyres, Horner gave his opinion on what he thinks happened.

“It looked like they were taking a bit of a gamble and then they probably aborted at the worst time.”

Horner on Ferrari’s strategy call

Red Bull Racing’s team principal continued, “I haven't followed their race plot that closely. From the pit wall, that's what it looked like.”

Ferrari made an attempt to stay out on dry tyres instead of coming in like most of the other teams. Due to this decision, they briefly lead the race and then fell behind.

Horner said, “Yeah, I just mean at that moment, it seemed a kind of no-brainer decision at that point. You've always got to react to very much what's going on around you. When it's pissing down in the pit lane, it's usually a good time to put some wet tyres on.”

Red Bull Racing were able to make the right calls pertaining to verstappen as well as McLaren when it came to Norris. While they weren’t the only ones to make the wrong call, they were the only “top team” to suffer from it as McLaren, Red Bull Racing, and Mercedes all had a driver on the podium.

Leclerc is eight with four points and Hamilton is tenth with one point in the driver's championship rankings. Ferrari is down in seventh in the constructors championship rankings with five points.
