Hamilton's family praised: 'We have the wrong image of Lewis'

Anthony Hamilton, Lewis' father, was quick to comfort Isack Hadjar after the Racing Bulls rookie parked his car in the wall at the second corner of the warm-up lap. A nice gesture, thought Christijan Albers, former F1 driver and current analyst.

Albers states in the Telegraaf podcast that Anthony Hamilton is really "a sweet guy", as the Dutchman says Lewis is too. "We all got the wrong idea about Lewis because of Silverstone. And that has all been jazzed up by the television channels."

"It didn't make sense of course, those analysts who started stirring it all up. It's not fair and not fair at all," Albers refers to how the '21 clash between Verstappen and Hamilton at the British circuit was reported. Later, Hamilton won the race, which he celebrated exuberantly, which was met with criticism.

Hamilton's father did as good a job as Jos Verstappen

But, says Albers: "Anthony did a super job, just like Jos did with Max [Verstappen]. There is great decency in that. You have to have that in Formula 1 too. You have to have raucous drivers and you have to have guys who are a bit neater, have a bit more decency. Who are careful with what they say. That mix has to be there. Otherwise you have a completely disorganised group."

Hamilton's father then joined Hadjar, to give him words of encouragement after the crash on the warm-up lap, which received a lot of media attention, much to Albers' incomprehension. He says: "With Sainz, we don't talk about it anymore, while he was driving behind the safety car [and crashed], with so many years in Formula 1. Last year's race winner. And with Hadjar, we talk about it because he is a rookie."
