Those who would like to see Max Verstappen break all records must hope that the Dutchman continues to win a lot in the coming years. After winning his second F1 title in Japan, the Red Bull Racing driver says he does not want to stretch his F1 career.

Verstappen's future after second F1 title

Verstappen is still tied up in Formula 1 with Red Bull until 2028 and it is quite conceivable that the Dutchman will continue driving in the motorsport's premier class for a few more seasons after that, but on the other hand, it is not out of the question that Verstappen could suddenly quit after that. The 25-year-old driver took his second F1 title in Japan, but also says he does not want to stretch his career in Formula 1 too far.

In an interview with F1.com he is asked how far he can get in the sport: "I can go on for a long time, but eventually I don't see myself racing until I'm forty. After all, I want to do a lot of other things as well. I really enjoy what I'm doing now and I'll be in F1 for a while. I signed for until '28. But after that it just depends. I will probably try some different things in terms of racing. It's important to try different things, I find."

If Verstappen wins the title every year he is under contract with Red Bull, he could still hold the record for most F1 titles during this period. The chances of the Limburger achieving that are just extremely unlikely, but fortunately, Verstappen himself does not seem to care as much about the record lists as many F1 fans do.

He could switch with me for my job and salary anytime he wants, if even for a single day XD I'm sure my boss and coworkers would approve as well!

It is a personality thing. Obviously for Max, it is not only about numbers. Of course he wants to win as many races and championships as possible, but it is not just about that. He wants to enjoy it, live the dream, be the best that he can be, improve as a person and as a driver. But just like any other sportsman, champion, at some point you get tired. Mentally, first of all. It can be something not necessarily related to racing, maybe he wants more time at home, or build a family, spend more time with them, or the continous travelling, the very few moments of rest, or whatever it may be, sometimes, they just have enough. Just like a normal person. In the end, it is only his choice. There is also the choice of a sabbatical. You saw Kimi before, or Fernando more recently, just how rejuvenated he came back to the sport after his time away. You can be certain that without that time away, he could've stayed maybe through 2019, but after that i bet he would have retired for good. But he found his passion again, and now he wants to stay for multiple seasons. This is just a modern day example. In F1 history we have seen cases before when a driver retires and then comes back when the spark, that extra incentive is back. Nothing is off the table. For me, the biggest joy is seeing Max perform at the peak of his abilities, because this 2022 season is one for the ages. Truly stellar performance, and nobody can take that away from him.

Max will beat Schumachers record and get to 8 titles first and hopefully even beyond. He is now thr benchmark for the rest of the field and he is only just getting started at 25 years young.
