Hamilton lucky that contact with Verstappen was 'wheel-to-wheel'

The long-awaited and predicted clash between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton finally took place last weekend at Silverstone. The two title rivals touched at copse and spun off the track. It was the end of the race for the Dutchman, while Hamilton won the race despite a 10-second penalty and moved up the standings.

During the F1 Cafe on ZiggoSport Giedo van der Garde and others talked about the incident, this time with the new footage that was revealed earlier this week. Van de Garde knows exactly what Verstappen did first when his car came to a stop: check all the body parts.

"That's the first thing you do. You crash, so you start feeling am I ok and is everything still together. If you see the new footage, it is actually pretty quick that he takes off his headrest and his steering wheel. You can see that after that he's struggling immensely to get out of the car."

Hamilton still to blame a week later

The fact that Hamilton hit Verstappen's rear wheel is indisputable. Van der Garde, therefore, thinks it's clear who is to blame here and didn't think it was a good moment to overtake.

"It was a bizarre crash and my opinion is still that Lewis Hamilton was at fault here. Lewis was so lucky that it was wheel on wheel. It's actually almost not a place to overtake. If it's a slower corner where you can outbrake someone ok. But this is basically in the race and small lift and in qualifying full throttle."

Just another Dutch loser.

Sitting Bull 26 July 2021 at 05:40+ 1509

Blah blah blah from all these failed drivers. “It’s actually almost not a place to overtake”, but Hamilton did it successfully twice more without incident. That’s 3 times in that single race! And “it’s actually almost not a place to overtake”? Well, no wonder he’s won 7 championships and 99 grands prix, and Van der Garde has won, er, how many F1 grands prix for Caterham and Sauber? Zero points, zero wins, zero podiums, zero pole positions, zero fastest laps, zero. Big 0. And still, yada yada yada!

Yes 2 more without incident.
The difference was they weren't a threat to him.
Plus 20 seconds more time penalties and another 4 licence point deductions would have cost him the race.
Lets see if he chokes again on an even playing field like the english soccer team did.

Hams was tucked up on the kerb when he passed Leclerc.

Leclerc gave less room than Max yet still ran off the circuit.

Sir Lewis Hamilton isn't coping with the majority media and fan consensus that Max Verstappen is the current best driver in F1 as confirmed thus far this season.
I am convinced the take out was deliberate and the one last opportunity for any chance for victory other than Max experiencing mechanical misfortune later in the race.
Hamilton's lesser skills were witnessed by all in the lead up Sprint after securing pole thanks to the tow from Leclerc. Not only did Max predictably outsmart him at the start, he secured pole position in the F1 in front of Hamilton's home crowd.
During the bus parade afterwards the expression on Hamilton's face was that of a man who had just woken up after been knocked out in a title fight.
It was time for desperate measures and wow, what a reply.

Wow what a reply from HAM, he showed he can be as aggressive as VER, long may it continue

Verstappen has been a super aggressive driver over the years, it's just last time he had nothing to lose. At Silverstone, it's so simple to explain the incident : Verstappen got a taste of his own medicine.

Again people using childish nicknames because they apparently hate someone they have never met so much.

"Red Bull’s Formula One racing driver Max Verstappen has signed a three-year sponsorship deal with Ziggo.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Dutch pay-TV channel will feature the 20-year-old more prominently in its programming, including in esports coverage."

Does that include GPBlog?

Dutch ran but I don't think they have any direct commercial interest with Verstappen.

Mr Garden... your opinions mean nothing... after this has been judged, you are just heart sore n ranting.. we feel for you.... its dry, Horner milked every drop...

Life's a laugh 25 July 2021 at 18:41+ 2864

Come already.
There was fresh milk,
You kept on milking the 'Hamilton purposefully collided with Max'.

Then, sour milk, Hamilton's premeditated murder attempt on Max.
Then it turned into cheese (gouda that is),
its a miracle, Max is off the Horner life support machine.

Its blue-cheese now and everyone is still trying to milk a dead cow.
Soon it will be powdered bluecheese mold, that RBR and the Dutch gang, they will want to reverse engineer the powder into fresh milk.

Don't they realize that they are milking a red "bull".

You should be milking a cow not a bull.
Unless they see Merc GP and Hamilton as cash cows, that they would like to milk and are trying to, with the damage is X Euro's rhetoric.

Let it go.
Let's fight on the track.

Needed to vent there...
Hahahaha...

Not a place to overtake!!!!

Simpleh Lovely 25 July 2021 at 19:11+ 15729

Hams was frustrated getting outsmarted by Max again on the first lap despite Hams having the much faster car, he wasn't going to be humiliated for a second day in row in front of the British fans so Hams decided going into Copse that he wasn't going to let Max win at Silverstone. Max being on the outside with an unloaded inside tyre was always the one at most risk in a collision.

Like when he was penalised against Albon, he just lets his car understeer into the other car. It's quite sneaky and rather dirty.
