Red Bull Racing was able to beat Mercedes for the first time since 2013. With
Max Verstappen, it seems that
Red Bull Racing has a driver in-house who will bring more world titles in the years to come.
Christian Horner is especially proud of last season.
For years it seemed impossible that Mercedes would miss out on winning the world championship. Between 2014 and 2020, it was invariably Mercedes that ran away with the victory. Whereas
Nico Rosberg managed to take the top prize in 2016,
Lewis Hamilton won in the other years.
Horner proud of Red Bull's performance
In an interview with
Motorsportweek.com Horner elaborates on that achievement. The Red Bull team boss sees how hard his team has worked to get closer to Mercedes and eventually compete with them. The Brit stresses that not only Verstappen played a big role in this success, but that his gratitude also goes to
Sergio Perez.
"Mercedes are a great, great team," he stated. "What they’ve achieved in the last seven years is they’ve annihilated the opposition, Lewis has destroyed the opposition, and finally we’ve managed to take the fight to them and beat Lewis in a Mercedes at the final race."
