AlphaTauri is very happy with Pierre Gasly. Last season he gave the Italians a race victory and this season Gasly sometimes surprises friend and foe with excellent performances. It's not surprising that people are already speculating about the future of the Frenchman. Next season he is still with AlphaTauri. After that? Who knows?
Sky Sports analysts are also speculating about where Gasly will eventually land. Former world champion Jenson Button does not see the Frenchman returning to Red Bull Racing, AlphaTauri's parent team. "I imagine he will have a number of options at the end of next year, but where will he go," Button wonders aloud. "Alpine probably, because I think he wants to be in an independent team. In the future, it needs to stay consistently ahead of AlphaTauri. Alpine has the money to do that."
Fellow analyst Damon Hill has praised Gasly's qualities. "Nobody doubts his abilities," Hill said. "It's a shame he went to Red Bull. That's a very difficult environment and the youngsters don't have the authority to deal with it. Perez is holding his own against the bosses, but is a more experienced driver. "
Gasly's contract with Red Bull expires in 2023. When he is released in two years, Gasly will already be 27 years old. That seems an ideal time to make the move to a team vying for the world title. At Alpine, Esteban Ocon is still locked in until 2024, so adding Gasly would create a complete French team.
Why would Gasly change to a worse team?
AlphaTauri is better than Alpine. The only reason Alpine has more points is that they have a new driver in AlphaTauri.
The only reason I can see for a change is having an all French team... and that's not a very good reason at all. He should stay where he has the best opportunities both now and in the future.
He'd be stupid to leave. AT is a great outfit for someone who doesn't have the absolute best. He'll never be a champion, but he'll be able to collect a nice set of wins over time in an environment that doesn't push him too hard.
So Button think Alonso will retire by then? I don't see Alonso leaving for Gasly, unless he wants to call it a day.
Possibility of Gasly and Russell partnership at Mercedes for 2024 and beyond? Article says Gasly's RB contract expires end of 2023 and Hamilton's Mercedes contract also expires end of 2023. Now Lewis might want to still drive for Mercedes beyond 2023 and if that's the case then I'm sure Merc will re-sign him. But if not then why not pair George and Pierre?
Gasly should get hell out of the Toxic environment propagated by Spice boy and the Helmet. This 4 car conspiracy where they sacrifice everything and everybody just so Verstappen gets the better of Mercedes is a shocking spectacle. Gasly should be with a team that wants to compete and win for themselves. I hope he gets a drive with Alpine, where he doesn't have to drive to Redbull orders.
Alpine has Oscar Piastri as their reserve driver next year, so when Alonso retires, Piastri will be put into that seat straight away.
Looking at junior category credentials, of the 3 of them, ie. Gasly, Ocon and Piastri, Oscar has the best record and is the best driver of the 3, so Alpine should have him in the car if they are serious in getting good points in the constructors championship.
I think Gasly's speed, experience, and being French will be hard for Alpine to overlook but Piastri's recent comments that he will not race but focus solely on the reserve role sounds like someone who knows he's in line for a ride. And he definitely deserves a F1 seat.
"the youngsters don't have the authority to deal with it" - Are you ok Hill? Max was 17 and he dealt with it.
Max was with toro Rosso when he was 17 then had full support from red bull as soon as he joined the team so they are very different situation
What's so diffrent? He was a kid. He won his first race in a Red Bull at 18
6 years of losing mate, and better driver's were fired ,get real, you can't disagree Max was always mediocre, difference is he has been enabled for 6 seasons.
I think Alpine is a possibility. Somehow, I think Mercedes could be an option if he has another great year and if Lewis steps away or even Mclaren if Ricciardo does not improve his form. Regardless, another great year and he will definitely have options.
I always said that Redbull got rid of the wrong driver.
You also said Qatar had a 'lot of slow corners' so obviously your opinion is worth about as much as a soggy bagel.
And I was correct, rocketship Redbull with mediocre max messed up again
You have got to be kidding, right? Do you know nothing about F1 at all? Embarrassing comment.
How, what do you expect, any driver you put next to max, will struggle to keep up with him they still, and won't find any driver on the same level
Ricciardo matched and beat Crashstappen until a run of 6 DNFS on his last year....
